Peace Hidden
Holy Week
Bethany Cyphert
And when he drew near and saw the city,
he wept over it, saying, “Would that you, even you, had known on this day the things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes.
Luke 19:41,42
God didn’t create us to be separated from Him. We brought sin into this world and created the divide— and it grieved God. He laid down His only Son to give us a chance at everlasting life, if we choose. But that is the key… we choose. God would never force us to love Him, because then it would not be love. Love is sacrificial and powerful.
As Jesus begins His journey into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, He pauses and weeps. He weeps not for His own fate on the cross, but for the fate of those who choose not to believe. He is grieved by the separation, by the peace that is hidden from them in the midst of their unbelief.
The things that make for peace? A relationship with Christ— a sacrificial, powerful love for the Creator of all things. Jesus grieved, not for Himself, but for us. We can grieve His sacrifice— truly and fully love-giving. And sing for joy in the morning!
