One Hope, One People, One Gospel

Last year, during Black History Month, we reflected on the unlikely friendship between Thomas Johnson and Charles Spurgeon. Their relationship showed the reconciling power of the gospel across race, culture, and geography. Their story reminded us that the grace of God not only saves individuals but also brings people together in ways that reflect the unity of Christ.

As we celebrate Black History Month in 2026, we are invited to continue building bridges. Black history is filled with stories of perseverance, faith, and deep dependence on God. From the prayers of enslaved believers to the leadership of pastors and communities who stood for dignity and justice, hope in Christ has always been a sustaining force. That same hope continues to unite and strengthen the church today.

Scripture teaches that Jesus came to create one unified people. Through Him, barriers are broken, and a new family is formed in Christ. The gospel calls us to live out this unity in practical ways through humility, love, and shared mission. In a divided world, the church can model something different by living in harmony and reflecting the heart of God for all people.

At The Chapel in Green, our mission to Live, Reach, and Teach guides us forward. We live out the gospel through authentic relationships. We reach across barriers with the hope of Christ. We teach and model unity that reflects God’s heart for every person. When we embrace this calling, we become a testimony to the reconciling power of Jesus.

Black History Month is not only a time to remember the past but also a call to action in the present. Who might God be calling you to walk alongside this year? What bridges might He be asking you to build? May this month renew our commitment to unity and gospel partnership as we continue building bridges together. If this subject interests you, I would love to talk about it. Don’t hesitate to reach out to me at kali.brandon@tcig.org.
