Firm Steps
Bethany Cyphert
There is a reason we don’t build houses on sand. Sand constantly shifts and moves because there is nothing to hold it together. Sand can be moved by the sea, the rain, or even the wind. That is how light the sediment is! Stepping on dry sand shifts to move around your foot instead of underneath. Trust me, if you have ever tried to walk up a sand dune, you know that it is exhausting. (Although being at the beach right now would be a dream come true.)
As we approach the New Year, I want to encourage you in God’s steps. He doesn’t build His plan for us in the sand—He never yields.
Psalm 37:23-24
The Lord makes firm the steps
of the one who delights in him;
though he may stumble, he will not fall,
for the Lord upholds him with his hand.
He makes firm our steps because He is our rock. His plans never shift under our feet; they are sturdy and true. They are never moved by the wind and the waves. And although we make mistakes and stumble, He is there to pick us up and be our strength to carry on. All we have to do is trust that He has us— taking that firm step forward and trusting Him with all that we have.
