An Object in Motion
Bethany Cyphert
Coming off of last Sunday’s sermon, there was a phrase from Pastor Mike that really stuck out to me. “An object in motion is easier to redirect than an object at rest.” When evaluating our gifts, it is important to remember that we will never find our purpose with those giftings if we sit on them. We each have a purpose because Christ has given His life for us. But, within that purpose, we each have a unique set of giftings to further the body of Christ. Engaging in new opportunities will teach us how to use the gifts and skills that God has given us.
Trying new things is a way for us to see how our gifts can be used. Just as they say, “you won’t find love while you are sitting on the couch,” our gifts won’t find us unless we seek them out. Have you ever tried teaching? It can be intimidating, but there are many people gifted with teaching all different ages. Teaching a 3rd grader is quite different from teaching a preschooler, but both are essential to the growth of God’s children. You never know what you can excel in until you try! And even if it doesn’t feel like a natural gifting, there are still so many spaces where we can give our time to something that serves God’s kingdom.
As we talk about gifts, it is also important to celebrate how much God is growing our church. In the past three months, we have given out over 100 “New Here” bags to families that are visiting. Many of these families have children, and they get to hear the gospel every week from our wonderful volunteers. We are growing, and we need your gifts! So be an object in motion and seek out your gifts. The body of Christ needs each one of you.
