A Yellow Rose

A few weeks ago on a Wednesday night, two middle schoolers were walking around our church and giving out flowers to people that they saw. Unprompted and simple, they chose to display a unique and beautiful act of kindness. Their joy was so obvious, too, as they gave out these flowers. They started conversations, gave encouragement, and spent a moment with people they had never met. Attached to these flowers were various bible verses of encouragement. Mine said, John 13:7

“Good things take time”

These two girls had no idea how much that bible verse meant to me in addition to the flower. Flowers have always been a symbol of love to me. God’s love in the wildflowers, my family’s love in the flowers they give me. When I received a beautiful yellow rose, it reminded me that God hears my prayers. He knows the way my heart aches, and He sent two girls to me with a symbol of His love. Who knew something as simple as a yellow rose could mean the world to someone? Can we all choose this week to give a small gift of encouragement and walk in the steps of these young leaders? A card of encouragement, a flower, a magnet, or even a sticker. Something that reminds you of that person and shows love and encouragement to them in their life. Something as simple as the perfect yellow rose.
