A Year of Saying Yes

A few years ago, I challenged myself to say yes. Whether it was a social event or a new activity, I forced myself into situations that were uncomfortable for me. Anyone who knows me well knows that I struggle with a lot of social anxiety. Doing new things are hard for me, especially social gatherings and group activities. But God called me to spend an entire year pushing my limits.

God used this season in incredible ways. He pushed me into situations that I never thought I would do. I found a wonderful group of friends who challenge me, met so many people, and even reconnected with a friend I had studied abroad with in college. He rekindled my love for writing and gave me opportunities to grow in my skills. He showed me a life that was full of joy and personal connection.

I have learned so much from this year, and from trusting God with my “yes”. I began to let people into my life, to walk together in times of joy and pain. And in adventures! A friend of mine knew my heart for travel and asked, “Will you go to Mozambique?” God took time to soften my heart and push me there. He did all the work, and all I did was say yes.

I talk about this year because it gave me the courage to keep saying yes. To find the things that God calls me to and chase them. This week is one year from me taking over the writing of the newsletter. Honestly, when they asked, I was terrified. What if I wrote something wrong? What if I failed? I always had His guidance and wisdom on the topics, His heart in serving, and His love in community. But if I hadn’t said yes, I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to feel God’s presence through it all.

What is God calling you to say yes to?
